Homemade Mulberry Jam, made in Colombo

Our mulberry jam is made by hand in a home kitchen in Colombo, Sri Lanka, a few jars at a time. We cook sun-ripened mulberries low and slow with cane sugar and a squeeze of lemon until the berries turn glossy, deep purple and spoonably thick.

There are no preservatives, colourings or thickeners, just three ingredients you can pronounce. Because every batch is small, each jar tastes like fresh berries rather than sugar.

Ingredients

Mulberries, cane sugar, lemon. No preservatives.

  • Spread on warm toast, roti or hoppers
  • Swirled through yoghurt, curd or overnight oats

What does mulberry jam taste like?

Mulberry jam tastes like a cross between blackberry and grape: sweet, gently tart and rich in berry flavour. Ours is made with less sugar than most store-bought jams, so the fruit comes through clearly.

Does your mulberry jam contain preservatives?

No. NIRO’S mulberry jam is made with only mulberries, cane sugar and lemon. There are no preservatives, artificial colours or thickeners.

How should I store mulberry jam?

Keep unopened jars in a cool, dark place. Once opened, keep the jar in the fridge and always use a clean, dry spoon.
